Browned sausages in an air fryer basket

15–18 minutes at 200°C (fan 180°C / 392°F, gas mark 6).

The air fryer is brilliant for sausages from frozen — no defrosting, and they brown better than under the grill. At 200°C allow about 15–18 minutes for standard sausages.

Straight from frozen

Spread the frozen sausages out in a single layer so the hot air can circulate. If they’re stuck together in a block, give them a few minutes first, then separate and spread them out to finish. Turning them halfway gives an even colour.

Check they’re done

Because sausages are minced meat, they must be cooked all the way through — piping hot, with no pink in the centre and clear juices. Thicker sausages need the longer end of the range; thin chipolatas are quicker.

Method

  1. No need to defrost — place the frozen sausages straight into the basket in a single layer, not touching.
  2. Cook at 200°C, turning halfway through.
  3. If they're frozen together, cook for a few minutes then gently prise apart and spread out.
  4. Check they're piping hot and cooked through before serving.

How to tell it's cooked

  • Browned all over
  • Piping hot in the middle
  • No pink meat and clear juices

Times by size

Size / typeTime
Chipolatas (thin)10–12 minutes
Thick / Cumberland18–20 minutes
From chilled (not frozen)10–13 minutes

Food safety: Sausages are pork or a mix, so they must be cooked right through — until steaming hot with no pink and clear juices (around 75°C). Cook straight from frozen; don't stack them, as the middle ones may stay cold.
