12–18 minutes at 200°C (fan 180°C / 392°F, gas mark 6).
Frozen chips are one of the things the air fryer does best — crisper than the oven, quicker, and with no oil needed. Most take about 12–18 minutes at 200°C, depending on how thick they are.
Straight from the freezer
There’s no need to defrost or add oil — the chips already have a light coating. Just tip them in, spread them out, and shake the basket halfway so they crisp evenly. The one thing to avoid is overfilling: a crammed basket steams the chips soft instead of crisping them, so cook a big batch in two goes if you need to.
Method
- Tip the frozen chips straight into the basket — no need to defrost or add oil.
- Spread them in as even a layer as you can.
- Air-fry at 200°C, shaking the basket halfway through.
- Cook until golden and crisp.
How to tell it's cooked
- Golden and crisp outside
- Piping hot in the middle
- Crisp rather than soft or floppy
Times by size
| Size / type | Time |
|---|---|
| Skinny fries | 10–14 minutes |
| Straight-cut chips | 14–16 minutes |
| Chunky / steak chips | 16–20 minutes |
Food safety: Cook straight from frozen until piping hot throughout. Don't overfill the basket, or they steam instead of crisping and cook unevenly.
